Frequently Asked Questions

Is the code uploaded to a server or stored anywhere?

No, not a single character. Generation and rendering happen entirely inside your browser from the text you type — it never leaves your device, and we keep no copy of it. That makes this safe for private links or data you’d never want to upload anywhere.

What does "error correction level" mean?

QR codes can survive damage or smudging over part of the symbol and still scan, and each level sets how much: L tolerates 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, and H 30%. Higher tolerance produces a larger code (more modules). For printing on a surface that may get dirty or creased, pick Q or H; for display on a clean screen, M is enough — and it’s the default.

Can I encode a long URL or long text?

Yes. The code can hold up to roughly 2,900 bytes (about 2,900 Latin characters, or around 950 Arabic characters) at the lowest level — but capacity drops as error correction rises. If you ask for more than the code can hold, the tool tells you plainly that it won’t fit instead of handing you a truncated code.

Why is there a white margin around the code?

It isn’t decoration — that’s the "quiet zone" the QR standard itself requires. Scanners need roughly four modules of white space around the symbol to know where it starts and ends, and without it many devices fail to read an otherwise perfect code. The PNG you download includes the same margin.

Where should I place the code so phones can read it?

Any clear flat surface: a phone or computer screen, or printed on paper, card or packaging. Make sure lighting is adequate and the code isn’t crumpled or smudged. If it prints too small or in two very similar colors, raise the error correction level or enlarge the image.

Can I use the code commercially?

Yes, with no restrictions from this tool. QR codes are an open standard technology, and the content encoded is yours. What matters is the content itself: if the code contains a link or text, you are fully responsible for it, exactly as if you had written it by hand.

Why would I ever change from the default level?

If you have no specific reason, leave it at M: a good balance between code size and damage tolerance. Higher levels pay off for physical printing; the lower one suffices for small screens.
