Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from Protect PDF?
"Protect PDF" asks for a password before the file can be opened at all. "Restrict PDF" opens straight away with no password — the password you set here (the owner password) is never requested to open the file, and it only controls the permissions: printing, copying, modifying.
Are these restrictions 100% guaranteed?
No — and that is important to say plainly. The restrictions are recommended permissions inside the PDF file, and it is up to the reading software whether to honor them. Most well-known programs (Adobe Acrobat, the Chrome and Firefox browsers) do respect them in practice — but tools that ignore them exist, and the content of the file itself is neither changed nor hidden. Restrict PDF prevents accidental use (a casual print or copy click), not a determined person bypassing it.
What if I want to lift the restrictions later?

Is the file uploaded to any server?
No, not one character. The whole restriction happens inside your browser — neither the file nor the password is ever sent to us or anyone else.
What if I forget the owner password?
The file still opens normally with no password — only the restrictions remain in place, and there is no way to remove them without the password. Store it somewhere safe if you think you may ever want to lift the restrictions.
